OMG – How long has it been?

by Zimm on June 7, 2010

Things have been crazy in my world, and I realize that I haven’t kept you apprised.   Started a new job, which requires some travel, and Jamie has opted to tag along.   Not only did he ‘tag along’, but he brought the four dogs with him.  (Remind me to post some pics.)

Honestly, I should get him to add some new blogs in here somewhere.   He could blog about our “wonderful” adventures in Texas.

I apologize for the lack of updates, but I started a new job.   For the first few months, it has been all consuming.  I have barely had time to keep up with work, Jamie, the dogs, and visiting  the family on the weekends.  (My family lives in Texas – go figure that one out.)

I promise to start providing some more updates, but things will have to stabalize first.

Back shortly.   Give me one more month (if that long), and then I will be posting regularly again.

Without giving anything away to our dear American Friends (who like me, HATE spoilers) Series Five of Dr. Who launched last night here in Britain to a cracking start.

From the first five seconds The Eleventh Hour was fantastic. A new Doctor, a new companion, a new Tardis (I want to live there), revamped theme music and even a new Logo. Pretty much everything you’d expect from a re-launch.

Matt Smith’s debut attracted 8 million viewers – that’s almost 37% of the audience share – all clambering to see if he could live up to his predecessors. Well, he does.  And as Stephen Moffat states: “we’ve a proper bonkers Doctor”.  I was sceptical when I first saw his press release last year… The Doctor has to be sexy… and as gay geeks sometimes are loathe to admit, we need ‘em sexy.  Photos don’t really do him justice.  But see him in action and yes, there is something profoundly sexy about this one – albeit a very geeky sexy.  I do have a thing for floppy hair.

Companions?  Well, they too must be sexy to appeal to both sides of the coin… (come on… admit it… Tate was a sexy hilarious mind…).  Karen Gillan as Amy Pond is, in-fact, probably the sexiest companion ever –  Very pretty, Scottish, quirky and a little bit neurotic her self.

After Tennant decided to step down we thought – OK, Doctors come and go… We love David, but it’s not the end of Time…. But Davies? Leaving the Helm?  Ack.  Well, geeks everywhere need not fear.  We already knew how fantastic a writer he was (remember those freakin’ scary stone angels in the BAFTA winning episode?), but taking on the leadership of Dr. Who is something he was built for.

Somewhere in all of this I do have to mention… there is a lovely, lovely chap playing a bit part – a friend of Amy Pond…. Jeff… oh… Jeff…. Please don’t be in only one episode… you are sooooooooo dreamy…. (btw….Tom Hopper is his real name).

Anyway… I digress… To our American friends who will have to wait until July to catch up, but  I do apologise for rubbing it in.  But, I have to admit, this first glimpse into the new world was just a BIG BBC tease… we over here have to wait a while before the series actually gets going. But, the wait will be worth it.

Club Clothes for May

by Zimm on March 6, 2010

As always, I try to keep an eye out for some rather unique geeky club clothes, and while there hasn’t been anything incredible, I did spot these two.  I’m not exactly sure which one I like more.  Also, you might be one of the first (or few) gay men that actually own one.

I think the Darth Vader one would stand out more.

Tru Blood Soda

by Zimm on March 5, 2010

Yes, we all love our vampires, and we are even enjoying the HBO Series: True Blood.   Who took Bill????  Some of us are even planning a social event with friends to watch the premiere of season 3.   (I wish someone would invite me to one.  sniff, sniff.)  So, if you happen to be the queen socialite planning for such an occasion, I stumbled across something PERFECT f0r your party.  TRU BLOOD SODA!

If you follow the link to the HBO site, you can order a set of 4 or even a pack of 24.  I would order 4 and not share.  Instead, I would simply offer everyone a drink, and once they have theirs, you saunter into the kitchen, retrieve your Tru Blood, and then join the party.   Party envy is good for everyone.

Truthfully, I think it would have been fun to make it as a Bloody Mary mix.  Now, that would have worked.  Tru Bloody Mary.

Fashion No No

by Zimm on March 4, 2010

In this ongoing series of fashion advice, I will point out those items that are clearly unacceptable.  I’m not saying that you can’t own them or that you can’t wear them to a convention or on Halloween.  BUT – you can not wear them out to dinner, clubbing, or other public event where some queens will most definitely be giving you the once over.

However, as the gay community tends to set trends, we might have a chance to convert enough people to actually start wearing them, but then they are no longer special.  So with that in mind, these are a no, no.  Get them.  Enjoy them.  Just don’t be spotted wearing one in public.

The first such item is the Star Trek Metallic Division Badges.  You have the option of the command, engineering, medical or science badge.  Just remember, engineers are always the first to go.  At $9.95 each, you might even pick up all four.   Just give the engineer badge to the queen you are trying to dump.  Maybe he will catch on.

Spartacus – Update

by Zimm on March 1, 2010

Yes, I’m still watching Spartacus: Blood and Sand. I haven’t missed a beat, and I even set the DVR to record new episodes.   Why?  I don’t know.   The characters all have perfect hair, great teeth, and speak as if they were from old Victorian Era England.  What’s that all about?  And while we are on the topic, why are all of the Romans from England?  They sure look and act like it.   Shouldn’t it have had a more Latin culture?  Yes?  No?

So, once you get past the gratuitous blood, perfect haircuts, weekly nod to violent acts of death, and “sexcapades”, your not really even left with that much of a story.   In fact, they even killed off the one dangling plot, which was the return of his wife.

Despite all of that, I’m still recording Spartacus.  I’m still watching it.  BUT, I have an excuse!  Geeks tend to watch bad TV anyway.

Yeah, that’s the reason that I am still watching it.  ;)

Blackest Night 7

by Zimm February 26, 2010

Updated: Don’t worry, I didn’t put any spoilers in the post. I just got Blackest Night #7 in the Mail.  (Thank you, Best Comics)  I don’t want to ruin the ending, but……   And I don’t want to tell you that I wasn’t looking forward to Brightest Day, but……  However, I will say this.  Another Lantern [...]

Traveling – So No Geeky Time

by Zimm February 25, 2010

Had to make a trip out to San Fran for work, which put me behind on certain shows and other geeky items. Hopefully, I can provide you with some form of an update tomorrow. Cheers.

Umbrella Academy Pocket Watch and Statue Set

by Zimm February 23, 2010

Robert (“The Brother-In-Law”) is a die-hard Umbrella Academy fan, and I wasn’t sure if he had seen this set or not.  Now, while I enjoyed the series, Robert will go on and on and on about its sheer greatness.   Just kidding. Anyway, if you haven’t read the series, you should pick it up; however, if [...]

What am I reading?

by Zimm February 22, 2010

Right now, I am hooked on several different crossovers, and while I was hoping that after these, things would slow down — they only look to be picking up. Blackest Night – Great series.  Great story.  While I am interested in seeing how Hal Jordan will save the day, I am really interested in seeing [...]
