Torchwood being ‘Americanized’ by Fox

by Zimm on January 21, 2010

Big fan of the series.  Huge fan of the Characters, but one of the things that I enjoyed the most was that the lead character was gay – both in real life and on the series.  He was gay and none of the characters on the show cared.   Well, they didn’t care until one of his ex-boyfriends really screwed them over.

HOWEVER (getting back to my point), if Fox is developing a new version of the Torchwood series, who wants to bet that they get rid of the gay aspects of Jack Harkness.

This show did awesome on BBC, and no one complained that Jack had a boyfriend – or past lovers – or kissed a guy (or two).  HOWEVER, once again, with the show coming to Fox and America, I would expect that they will either downplay the ‘gay aspects’ of his character or change him all together.

I know, I know.  The show is only in development, and I should be excited about it being in development.  But we have seen this happen before.  We will see it again.   Also – Why can the British can handle a gay character and we can’t?  (Again, I know why, but it boggles the mind.)

I guess we should be excited that the series is in development and see how it pans out.

There is some hope though. RTD is still behind the show and writing the initial pilot. Also, for the record, Jack isn’t gay he’s omnisexual. He’ll have sex with anything.

Plus they’re supposedly trying to get Barrowman to play Harkness.
